Carol Vernallis is a music video theorist who is known for her theory based on editing within music videos and how multiple techniques are used such as base tracks, slow motion, jump cuts and special effect editing. As well as this she also says how camera work in a major part of a music video as it can make the video more attractive when, for example, matching to the beat of the song.
Waze & Odyssey - Bump & Grind with Waze & Odyssey vs R. Kelly is a very good music video to use when explaining Carol Vernallis' theory.
Just before the initial drop of the song there is a build up, within the video some of the build up contains slow motion and a lot of jump cuts, this suggests to us that the song is going to get faster and the various jump cuts help create a faster pace for the audience without even increasing the speed of the actual video, this is a great affect as you almost build tense for the audience.
Chris Brown feat. Usher & Rick Ross - New Flame
As the previous song didn't contain any base track editing I think this song shows it loads, base track editing is commonly used in hip/hop and RnB songs as the singers can then easily jump from scene to scene so the video still links to the lyrics. As you can see in Chris Brown - New Flame there's about 3 base tracks that feature the main signer and even extra base tracks that contain the signers featured on the song.
