Research | Analysis of costume, setting and location in Music videos

(Still need to add third song).

1. What do you notice about the amount of costumes used in the videos?

All of the costumes within music videos are used to help bring out the meaning behind the video, whether its to amplify the lyrics or help the audience identify the verse or chorus of a song.

2. What differences are there between the genres in terms of the amount and style of the costumes?

It seems that the bigger the budget of the artist the more there is costumes used, for example in Chris Brown - New Flame there is 5 for him, where as in Ed Sheeran - Don't there is only 3, this is because Chris Brown is more popular than Ed Sheeran and so will obviously have a bigger budget.

3. Compare the use of setting and location between the three genres - what similarities and differences can you spot?

4. How significant is the use of props in the genres that you analysed?

Within the pop/rock genre and hip-hop/rap it seemed there was rarely use for props as they were more just implemented into the setting rather than being used. The only common trend is that both feature products from Dr. Dre, but this is probably just from the company paying a good amount to be advertised within the video.
